The discipline of Statistics was initiated in 1983, being one of the earliest which provided mathematical statistics education for undergraduates in China. Since then, more than 400 professionals in statistics have been produced. The department has 5 full professors (including 3 PhD supervisors) and 3 associate professors.

The discipline of statistics is the basic for modern economics and management science. The students have to command fundamental management knowledge, statistical theories and skills, be able to process data via computers. After graduation, they will be able to work for governmental units, enterprises, financial management sector in fields of statistical analysis and management, or work for scientific research institutions in fields of academic research and teaching. Master and PhD degrees are conferred.
