The University of Hong Kong was founded in 1911, but its history began in 1887 with the establishment of the Hong Kong College of Medicine. One of the most well known international figures of the 20th Century, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China, was one of the college’s first graduates. In 1911, the foundation stone was laid to commemorate the establishment of The University of Hong Kong, or HKU as its students and alumni fondly call it. Since then, the University has built upon a century of dedication and commitment to teaching and research excellence to become one of the leading, and most comprehensive universities in Asia.

The respected Times Higher Education Supplement announced its rankings of the world's top universities for 2007 on November 8, 2007, and HKU has been awarded with its highest ranking yet, as the 18th best university in the world.


    Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of Hong Kong Achievement Highlights:

The Faculty has been ranked No.1 in Asia and Australasia in 2005 as one of the top 100 MBA programmes in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). In EIU's 2007 rankings, HKU MBA is ranked 37th among the world's top 100, up from 39th last year. It is the only programme in Asia and Australasia that makes the world's top 50 three years in a row.

Full accreditation status of EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System).

The Asia Case Research Center has developed over 250 cases with strong emphasis on Asian companies and economies, and the cases are currently distributed directly through Harvard Business School Publishing and The European Case Clearing House.

Professors who excel in research and are extremely dedicated to teaching have been recruited from all over the world and were trained at institutions such as Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, UC-Berkeley, UC-Los Angeles, the University of Chicago, and the University of Pennsylvania.
