BI students won Harvard competition.

Harvard Business School has announced Marius Nordkvelde and Joachim Espen winners of a large, international case-competition.

The two master students won the competition where 70 other universities from around the world, among them also Harvard University, participated, and won the prize “Team project Award”.

- I am both proud and impressed by this accomplishment, says President of BI Norwegian School of Management, Tom Colbj?rnsen, It is fantastic that two BI students wins such a large, international case-competition.

- It is fun to bask in the international glory of two such great students. BI strives to mark itself internationally. Earlier this fall we received good ratings from both EDUNIVERSAL’s global ranking of schools with international standards and the Financial Times’ ranking of the best Schools of Management in Europe, says Tom Colbj?rnsen.

The winning case is the students final assignment in the course “Strategies for Industrial Competitiveness”, which is a part of the Master of Science-program at BI. Nordkvelde and Espen have been at BI throughout their studies, they took the Harvard course as a part of their studies and will now receive the prize “Team Project Award” for winning the competition. The two winners graduated with a Master of Science in economy and leadership each from BI Norwegian School of Management this summer.

Harvard Network

A Harvard Network of approximately 70 universities from around the world participates in this course, for example Harvard, BI Norwegian School of Management and Stockholm School of Economics. It is the first time Harvard awards the prize “Team Project Award”. In the competition, all the universities submit their best case, which is then judged by a three member committee at Harvard. All the cases have different topics.

Won with a Cancer assignment

Nordkvelde and Espen won with an assignment on Oslo Cancer Cluster and their competitiveness in an international perspective. Oslo Cancer Cluster has expertise on research and development of products for cancer treatment and diagnostic.

The assignment analyzes the Cluster itself and has recommendations on how Oslo Cancer Cluster can secure further development and strengthen their international position.

- The prize is largely a result of that we have a great cluster for research on and treatment of cancer in Oslo. We would like to thank everyone in Oslo Cancer Cluster for the support we received during the writing of the assignment- without their help this would never have been possible. The prize is also a confirmation on the good work which is put into this course by BI, says Nordkvelde and Espen, which are both very enthusiastic about winning this prestigious prize.

- We never believed we would win, which makes winning this prize much greater, says a happy Espen.

Presented the case Wednesday night

The duo presented the case at a seminar at Harvard via video transmitting Wednesday night. Representatives from all universities in the network participated at the seminar. BI was represented by professor and responsible for the course, Prof. Torger Reve.
