BI’s financial research the fifth best in Europe

BI Norwegian School of Management is ranked as Europe’s fifth best academic community for financial research, as measured in scholarly publications. BI is the only Scandinavian institution in the global Top 100 list.

The University of Dallas, Texas, has created a database that makes it possible to compare universities and colleges all over the world by the number of their published research articles in the most reputable scientific and scholarly journals.

BI Norwegian School of Management is ranked as the fifth best research community in finance, measured in the three top publications (the “A” Journals) Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies, in the period 1996-2007. The ranking has been adjusted for author share.

London Business School is ranked as no. 1 in Europe in financial research, with INSEAD, Sa?d Business School at Oxford University, the University of Lausanne and BI Norwegian School of Management in the second through fifth places.

In Europe, BI has come out ahead of such famous schools as Tilburg University in The Netherlands, the London School of Economics (LSE), Spain’s Universitat Pompeu Fabra and France’s HEC.

Best in Scandinavia

BI Norwegian School of Management is the only Scandinavian research institution that qualifies for the global Top 100 list, in 78th place.

Right at the top we find the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University, the University of Chicago, Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Business School.

“High-quality research is crucial for being able to recruit the best international researchers,” maintains Associate Professor Dag Michalsen, the head of the Department of Financial Economics at BI Norwegian School of Management.

He heads a research department that is internationally oriented, with ten nationalities on the academic staff. Every year the Department organizes between 30 and 35 research seminars attracting some of the world’s foremost researchers in financial economics, while the Department’s own research is presented at scientific conferences abroad.

Competing with the best

“Ever since 1995 our fixed strategy has been to publish in the top three international journals in financial studies,” says Dag Michalsen.

In 2008 BI has published another three research articles in the three top financial studies journals.
