Resilience of the Enterprise and Cognitive Breakthrough of the Entrepreneurs

Professor Li Xuhong, Director of the Business Management Department from Fudan University School of Management, delivered a lecture on resilience of the enterprise and the cognitive breakthrough of the entrepreneurs.

Chinese enterprises are facing unprecedented challenges in the VUCA era brought about by technological revolution, obstacles to globalization, as well as changes in the geopolitical and economic environment. It’s essential for the enterprises to explore new paths to recover from crisis and achieve further development. Under these circumstances, « resilience », originally a psychological term, has been the center of discussion for plenty of scholars in management.

"Organizational resilience is the ability of an organization to anticipate, prepare for and adapt to changes and crises in order to survive and prosper, » Professor Li explained.

Resilience means robustness against major disturbances. An essential part of this resilience is agility, which allows the enterprise to adapt quickly to factors that give rise to the crisis. In times of great changes, the key to remain resilient lies in an agile company structure.

However, Professor Li emphasized that organizational resilience cannot be achieved simply through changes in structure and work process, but requires breakthroughs in cognition of the entrepreneur.
