Corporate Strategies in the Post-pandemic Era

This August, Professor Sun Jinyun from Fudan University School of Management shared his opinions and advice on corporate strategies in the post-pandemic era.

Professor Sun pointed out that the pandemic has been exerting different levels of impact over enterprises depending on the scale and the industry they belong to. Small, labor-intensive, private enterprises, enterprises from the service industry and those having invested big in marketing tend to take the major hit.

To put forward his suggestions for small and medium-sized enterprises, Professor Sun first introduced two concepts: "entrepreneur's self-efficacy" and "counterfactual thinking". He believes that strong self-efficacy can effectively help entrepreneurs identify the external crisis as early as possible and carry out proactive strategies. And he pointed out that pains caused by upward counterfactual thinking (to imagine better alternative states than the fact) can often become the impetus for the evolution of an enterprise. Professor Sun advised the entrepreneurs to embrace the status quo and break through their cognitive boundaries. Then he shared some key strategies to avoid risks and to develop innovative thinking.
