Decade Review: Alumni's Stories

He Tangxiong

After hiring professional managers in 2009, I became the President of Test Rite Group, which was equivalent to entering a semi-retired state. I no longer needed to participate in daily operations and could do things I wanted to do. At that time, Professor Huang Chongxing, Executive Director of NTU EMBA, said that NTU would launch a Fudan-NTU EMBA program. Well, when I heard that it was a program co-organized by prestigious universities across the Taiwan Strait and that I could obtain degrees from both sides, I became interested and said: "Great, I want to give it a try!"

Looking back, the teachers and students of this class were truly a group of elites. In particular, the professors from Fudan University shared many practical cases at that time, such as Lenovo's acquisition of IBM's personal computer business and the future development of the Internet. I really benefited a lot. If I had learned these things earlier, it would have been helpful to me sooner.

I still remember the first class held in Taiwan, China. Many students from Chinese Mainland set foot on Taiwan, China for the first time. Mr. Gai Fang, our classmate from Shandong, was very straightforward. As soon as he arrived at NTU, he decided to donate 1 million RMB on the spot to fund NTU students to study in the universities of Chinese Mainland. The scholarship subsidized 5,000 RMB per student per month and supported 100 students in total! Haha, his idea was really bold. As a student from Fudan, he made a name for himself at NTU! As the NTU class monitor, I also did not hesitate to announce a donation of 1 million RMB to Fudan University. The donation was also used to support 100 Fudan students to study in Taiwan, China.

This is an interesting story. In fact, it has since facilitated many young students' cross-strait study trips. It can be regarded as a small contribution to cross-strait exchanges and left a memorable story for our class. To this day, the classmates of our class are still good friends. The attendance rate of cross-strait students in various class activities is very high.

Over the years, the number of students coming to Taiwan, China through this scholarship program has been increasing. The classmates were also very thoughtful and later made a commemorative album for me, filled with sincere words. As an elder, I was deeply moved. Our trading business has always had interactions with suppliers from Chinese Mainland. Once, my colleague told me that a newly-arrived supplier liaison was extremely excited when she learned that she was going to do business with Test Rite Group. It turned out that she had come to Taiwan, China through the scholarship program when she was in university, so she had a particularly good impression of Test Rite Group.

When facing challenges, we must manage the "risks" and seize the "opportunities". "The more crisis-ridden the moment is, the more it is a test of brand trust. We need to make internal employees confident in us and external customers trust us, so that the brand can be more stable, stronger and longer-lasting."

Society and enterprises are undergoing changes. Enterprise managers must cultivate their ability of multi-dimensional thinking, constantly reflect, learn and update themselves in every process.

Fudan EMBA is not limited to business management, but also focuses on humanistic business philosophy. Adhering to the goal of "Integrating Business Philosophy with Humanistic Spirit", it enables students to draw strength from humanities, and gain great wisdom, broad vision and noble feelings. Meanwhile, as the top university in Taiwan, China, Taiwan University has nurtured numerous talents.

In terms of academics, operation management and cultural heritage, this program is a powerful alliance and an optimal combination. At the same time, cross-strait classmates learn from each other and grow together. Therefore, I chose the Fudan-NTU EMBA program, allowing myself to have the opportunity to share, learn, grow and progress together with outstanding talents from different industries.
