摘 要：
As urban transportation commuting causes serious pollution problems and harms human health, sustainable commuting has aroused increased interest in academia. Meanwhile, ride-hailing platforms potentially lead to commuters’ mode choices switching and schedule shifting. However, there is a lack of understanding of how commuters make their sustainable commuting decision with the influence of ride-hailing platforms. A platform restriction (PR) policy in a mega city provides an ideal opportunity to bridge the research gap, and we generate a unique dependent variable to evaluate the sustainable commuting rate (SCR) by combining two large commuting data sets. Our empirical analyses indicate a positive effect of platform restriction on sustainable commuting rate, and there exists an asymmetrical spillover effect before and after policy enforcement. The mechanism is explored from the perspective of flexibility constraints, commuting time and commuting cost. This study contributes to the literature on ride-hailing platform and urban traffic management, and extend the theory on commuters’ mode choice and schedule shifting. The practical implication is also discussed.
