Dr. Fred H.M. Gertsen, RA, MPA, (1952) has been a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers in The Netherlands for 20 years specialising in assurance services to the Financial Services industry. Currently, he is leading the Dutch Asset Management and Real Estate Industry practice of PwC. He is Register Accountant at the Royal Dutch Institute and received a Master’s of Professional Accounting from the University of Miami. He completed his PhD at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, and investigated how restatements of earlier issued financial statements affect corporate reputation and perceptions of CEO behaviour.
His current research concentrates on Behavioural Accounting and Governance and how the phenomenon of ‘Capture’ affects monitoring effectiveness in board rooms and in business more generally. In that context he has published an article in LRP (August 2006): ‘Avoiding Reputation Damage in Financial Restatements’. He has lectured on topics such as Board Capture, IFRS, Treasury and Risk Management, Banking, Hedge Funds and complex financial instruments.
