主题: Aspiration Determination During Environmental Jolts: the Role of Opportunity and Threat Interpretations

摘要：We investigate organizational aspiration determination by examining how organizations adjust their attention to each reference point in response to environmental jolts and how decision makers’ opportunity and threat interpretations of the jolts regulate attention allocation. We argue that, during environmental jolts, organizations allocate more attention to aspiration reference points that are more informative for uncertainty resolution and risk reduction. Furthermore, we propose that opportunity interpretation of a jolt regulates attention toward reference points that are more informative for seeking opportunities, whereas threat interpretation regulates attention toward reference points that are more informative for averting threats. Based on a sample of U.S. public firms in the 2007–2009 global financial crisis, we find that organizations, when determining aspirations, allocate more attention to past performance but less attention to past aspiration during jolts. Furthermore, an opportunity interpretation of jolts influences organizations to allocate more attention to past aspiration and social reference but less attention to past performance, whereas a threat interpretation influences organizations to allocate more attention to past performance but less attention to past aspiration. Our research extends the theory of aspiration determination into shock environments and brings a novel perspective into the theory—cognitive regulators of aspiration attention rules.

嘉宾简介：

罗玲利，博士生导师，现任浙江大学国际联合商学院助理教授、研究员、戏剧与影视硕士（iMFA）项目主任。她的主要研究领域是战略管理和国际商务，具体研究兴趣聚焦在企业行为战略、组织期望、跨国企业在中国等。研究成果发表在Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Business Ethics, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Management and Organization Review, Journal of Supply Chain Management, European Management Review, Journal of Small Business Management等国际学术期刊上。她主持国家自然科学基金、浙江省自然科学基金、浙江省哲学社会科学规划专项课题等。研究成果获浙江省哲学社会科学优秀成果青年奖。现担任 Australian Journal of Management期刊副主编、Asia Pacific Journal of Management期刊编委成员以及多个学术期刊的匿名审稿人。
