Pack up the Bags and Pursue Dreams | Opening Ceremony to Welcome Class 32 of BI-Fudan MBA Program Successfully Held

On May 31, 2019, Opening Ceremony to welcome Class 32 of BI-Fudan MBA Program was successfully held in School of Management, Fudan University. Kristin Iglum, Consul General of the Royal Norwegian General Consulate in Shanghai, Prof. Jan Ketil Arnulf, Dean Executive of BI Norwegian Business School, Tang Wenqing, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Fudan University, Yin Zhiwen, Associate Dean of School of Management, Fudan University, Heidi Wigg, Associate Dean of BI-Fudan MBA Program, professors and senior students representatives of the Program were present at the ceremony.

More than 50 excellent managers engaging in different businesses officially entered BI-Fudan MBA with great joy. Now they set forth on a two-year journey of learning to understand, improve and go beyond themselves.

 

Before the Opening Ceremony was officially started, Peter Li, Senior Consultant of Career Development Office, School of Management, Fudan University, former General Manager, Onshore Wind Great China, GE Renewable Energy provided the first lesson of MBA course to the students: Business Ethics. Peter once studied as a student of Class CMP5 of BI-Fudan MBA Program from 2000 to 2002. When it came to “Business Ethics”, it was quite essential to every manager specializing in different industries and domains, as it was the fundamental principle and governing philosophy of enterprises, as well as the answer to the question of “how to solidify enterprise cornerstone”. Peter said that, the concept of career development comprised the concept of continuous learning, the competitive capacity which advanced with the times and the code of morality, as one’s integrity reflected his values. In different occasions, if one enterprise failed to stick to the moral bottom line, or failed to abide by the principle of good faith, then the path of development of the enterprise wouldn’t be healthy. Later, Peter proposed a practical case suggesting that, you should do the right thing in a right way.

 

Prof. Xu Huizhong, Executive Director of the program introduced the students profile of the new class. MBA32 consists of students from different industries such as manufacturing, pharmaceutical, IT, logistics, consulting, trade, media, energy and etc. Their average age is 35.5 years, average working experience is 12.3 years, and average management experience is 6.8 years. 85.2% of them were from Multinational Companies.

 

The Opening Ceremony officially started on 10:40a.m.. Kristin Iglum, Consul General of the Royal Norwegian General Consulate in Shanghai, provided a welcoming address and she pointed out that, BI-Fudan MBA Program was a bridge for academic, business and cultural exchange between China and Norway. As an alumni of BI, she welcomed everyone who was going to be a member of the big family of BI-Fudan MBA, and she felt honored to witness the moment with all of them. Ms. Kristin Iglum encouraged all the students to have ideas of lifelong learning, dare to speak out their ideas and walk away from their comfort zone by listening to others, seeing the world, actively communicating with others and thinking by themselves. Finally, she expressed her expectations for students, and wished that everyone would overcome difficulties and make great achievements on the journey of learning.

 

Then, Ms.Tang Wenqing, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Fudan University, also extended a warm welcome to all the new students. She said that, it was an era of challenges and changes, and you should dare to challenge yourselves and always remain motivated under pressure. Whatever your position was, you should possess global vision and actively participate in international cooperation and exchange. At the same time, Ms.Tang also provided some suggestions to the new students: with persistent efforts, seriousness and enthusiasm, you would become a better person.

 

Prof. Jan Ketil Arnulf, Dean Executive of BI Norwegian Business School stressed that, in an era of rapid expansion, continuous learning became a mainstream. You should gain nourishment and improve yourself through learning. As the old saying goes, “There is always a teacher in the company of three”, you should keeping on seeking for more knowledge to realize a growth in your workplace.

 

Associate Dean of School of Management, Fudan University Yin Zhiwen welcomed all the new students who were becoming members of School of Management, Fudan University, a warm and responsible big family. He mentioned that, as one of China’s first sino-foreign cooperation MBA programs approved by Ministry of Education of P.R.C., BI-Fudan MBA Program won strong support from both Chinese and Norwegian governments. Through the whole journey, the program also won public reputation by delivering excellent and high-quality courses. Meanwhile, he also kindly reminded all the students that, now that they had chosen the program, they should go all out with persistent efforts. Moreover, he also suggested that, students should possess excellent interpersonal skills and actively make friends with others to expand their social network, not only to their classmates, but also the alumni. The students would benefit a great by communicating with others. He hoped that, all the students should dare to raise questions to their professors, express their own ideas and spend the next two years fruitfully.

 

After the distinguished guests from two universities delivered their speeches, Martin Shi, a student representative from MBA Class 31, shared his feelings and experiences of learning with all the new students. He believed that, the subject of “balance” should be forgotten, and they should try thier best to coordinate and get engaged in study. Besides, they should keep on expanding their social network and break a way through brambles and thorns in their domains. Finally, he wished that, the journey of learning would become an unforgettable memory in their lives.

 

Henry Qian, a new student representative from MBA 32 delivered speech at last. He said that he was full of expectation for the coming campus life. At the same time, he believed that it was just a start, and everyone would take the future learning seriously and make themselves well-prepared. They would sail over the sea with bags on their back, face to the challenge and become a better person.

 

Finally, Opening Ceremony of BI-Fudan MBA Program was closed with University Ahthem of Fudan University. It is believed that, under the guidance of spirit of Fudan as a century-old university, in pursuit of business knowledge, students of MBA32 will surely benefit a lot from the next two years, learn to balance the work with study and stick to the code of morality in their career and become better persons in the future!
