CEO, McDonald’s China， APMEA Division President

As Divisional President for McDonald’s China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, Kenneth Chan is responsible for driving long-term sustainable growth in one of McDonald’s fastest growing areas. This represents 3000 restaurants and they are more than a quarter of the McDonald’s portfolio in the Asia Pacific Middle East and Africa region. 

Kenneth began his McDonald’s career in 1993 as an assistant marketing manager in Singapore and advanced to operations manager before taking a position at Pepsi-Cola International. In 2001, Kenneth returned to McDonald’s as Director of Operations. 

Over years, Kenneth held key positions including Managing Director in Singapore. Later he took his role expanded to cover Malaysia, Korea and Taiwan as Regional Manager. In 2008, Kenneth was promoted to CEO of McDonald’s China and moved to Shanghai in that same year. In 2013, Kenneth was promoted to CEO China, Division President for Greater China.

During his time in China, Kenneth accelerated McDonald’s growth and expansion through channels such as delivery, 24 hours and McCafe; and in April 2014, McDonald’s China opened its 2000th restaurant under Kenneth’s leadership. 

Throughout his career, Kenneth has received many corporate awards. Most recently, Kenneth received the 2014 Outstanding Overseas CEO/Senior Executive of the Year Award at the annual Singapore Business Awards (SBA). This is Singapore’s oldest and most prestigious business award. Kenneth was also awarded the Leading CEO award by the Singapore Human Resource Institute and in 2009 he was named Champion of HR, presented by the HRM Magazine.

He has also received much recognition internally including the McDonald’s President’s Award – an award presented only to the top 1% of McDonald’s employees.

Kenneth holds a B.A. degree from Pomona College and more importantly a degree in Hamburgerology from Hamburger University in Chicago.
