Abstract: We study online demand fulfillment in a class of networks with limited flexbility and arbitrary numbers of resources and request types. The fulfillment decision must be made upon the arrival of each order and is irrevocable. We investigate from the literature of the net- work revenue management (NRM) problem and apply re-optimization techniques into online decision making. We establish the connections between the non-degeneracy of deterministic linear program (DLP) and complete resource pooling condition (CRP) in process flexibility. Inspired by the connections, we develop simple inventory allocation policy and guidelines for designing the network structures. Under such structure, a probabilistic fulfillment policy with re-solving heuristic and a load deviation policy can both achieve a uniformly constant bound that is independent of the time horizon and resource capacities.

Bio: Zhen Xu is currently working as an assistant professor in Management School, Uni- versity of Liverpool. His research interest lies at the interface of operations research, applied probability, and machine learning, with a focus on stochastic process control, dynamic pro- gramming, supply chain management, and data-driven decision making for a variety of static and dynamic models.
