摘    要:

Motivated by the ever-increasing prevalence of usage-based insurance (UBI), we study relational insurance contract under moral hazard when the insurer can collect subjective and objective signals about the insured’s behavior. We show that a more informative signal may not be socially beneficial. Specifically, when only the objective signal becomes more accurate, the insured may be worse off because either the employment of subjective signal is significantly distorted or even the relational contract is no longer self-enforcing. Moreover, the non-contractibility of subjective signals may distort investment in both subjective and objective signals. Our model thus has important policy implications for the insurance market in the digital era.
