内容摘要:Content creation platforms have limited control over output quality but are expected to meet increasingly diverse user demands. This raises a key question: How can platforms guide adaptive product design while ensuring engaging outcomes in autonomous environments? Our study investigates this two-fold challenge through a randomized field experiment conducted on a large content-sharing platform with millions of creators producing video content. We design the algorithmic feedback intervention providing comprehensive market information and examine whether this intervention can effectively address the challenges. Our estimations first confirm that algorithmic feedback can successfully increase user engagement, which serves as an important indicator of improved creator performance. To further evaluate its impact on product design, we analyze adjustments in product variety, quality, and quantity. The findings reveal that algorithmic feedback leads to a meaningful increase in product variety, while its effects on quality and quantity are not statistically significant. In addition, we demonstrate that the effectiveness of algorithmic feedback varies with experience level, production costs, and creative capacity. This study is among the first to empirically demonstrate how algorithmic feedback can shape independent creation processes. Our findings position algorithmic feedback as a novel, scalable intervention that achieves the platform-wide goal of increasing engagement while preserving individuals' production autonomy. Our results offer a reference for designing feedback systems that account for producer heterogeneity and enable platforms to grow in a sustainable manner.
