Rowing for Join and Fun

Rowing for Join and Fun

The temperature in Shanghai slashed overnight while the heat of Jing’an International Indoor Rowing Challenge remained the same.

Annual international indoor rowing challenge took place on November 10th in Jing’an district with students from the BI-Fudan MBA Program taking part in as a tradition. Two teams from MBA19 and MBA20 with about 15 members joined the game. For this year, they took part in mixed team relay (4*500) and Rowathon Event (2min*10).

An overnight drop in temperature did not stop members’ steps in attending the game and for those who came to join the Rowing Challenge, they still had fun. “This is a game for fun and health.” said Jenny, monitor of Class 20, “As many of us are under pressure in our daily work, activities of this kind do bring us some time to relax and also bond with others.”

Rainy day saw teams of different kinds crowding in Jing’an Stadium, heating up the competition. “It is the second year holding this rowing challenge in this Stadium, and it’s the fourth year since I started this game.” said Nicholas Herbert, alumni of BI-Fudan MBA. “When I started this game four years ago, I did most of the job. But now I can do less. And as you can see now, more machines, more people.” In 2009, when Nicholas Herbert was a student in BI-Fudan MBA Class 12, he was doing part-time job for the international rowing challenge and found it exciting. Nick said he thought it also related to the spirit of join and share. “When you work like a team and you exercise, you will find things not so hard.”

The race Team MBA19 and MBA20 took part in came at last. After warm-up preparation, team members were in a good spirit to join the race, and so were classmates and little kids being cheerleaders for them. Still, there were 20 more teams competing with them, among which some have practiced for a long time. Although not made in the top 3, classmates of MBA19 and MBA20 still had fun playing the game.
