No more hurry from office to classroom with MacDonald combo in hand in Friday afternoons. No more early wake up in weekend mornings, driving through the city to campus with sleepy eyes. The life is supposed to be easier. But the feeling of lost is always haunting for strange reasons.
I cannot claim myself as a student to play around any longer. As a registered student of the best universities in both Hong Kong and Shanghai, I always boast of the unparalleled educational resources of both cities, and naturally the superior feeling among peers. Not to mention these seemingly superficial benefits, the real tangible advantages by holding two student IDs will no longer exist. We used to enjoy student rates when traveling across the world, buy the cheapest student software as Chinese local students, and shop at special discount over discount for cosmetics in Sasa in Hong Kong.
It is no longer easy to call friends to hang out even when we do have free time. In the past, we would gather together from every corners of this city in weekends. We just took it for granted to have dinner, play badminton and play “Bang! Game” together right after the class. Even in the common workdays, we might come out and have a cup in the teahouse, discussing cases and our lives. That was a simple and burden-less social life without hassles of complicated business in office.
We are used to be in the comfort zone and no longer energized to attend classes and lectures in weekends, once we pass all the scheduled and mandatory courses. It was so joyful and exciting to learn something new. After completing all the 18 courses required, some of which I knew nothing beforehand, I seem to be equipped all the knowledge and skills to handle every aspect in the business world. More fortunately, we met genuine masters, who can easily infuse a complicated theory with plain languages. Alongside the knowledge and skills, it is more precious to develop various thinking paradigms during the study process. The principle of replication and arbitrage-free learned from the Derivatives Securities are one of great examples which apply in many circumstances in life and work. Business school should not only impart knowledge but also teach how to fish. The program did it.
The graduation is looming and we are ready to pack up and leave the school. The greatest harvest in the past two years is no doubt the relentless pursuit for “Sapientia Et Virtus”, as committed in HKU motto.

Last but not the least; I would like to express sincere thanks to this joint IMBA program, presented by University of Hong Kong and Fudan University in Shanghai, for offering such a unique opportunity and horizon across Hong Kong and Shanghai. It means even more for me, a student working for the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Co., Ltd.
