Forty years ago, School of Management at Fudan University (Fudan SoM) was re-established amidst the mighty tide of reform and opening-up. Carrying forward the century-old legacy of business education, it has shouldered the mission of nurturing outstanding management talents. These forty years have been a journey of keeping pace with the times, a testament to the perseverance and courage of generations of Fudan SoM faculty, students and alumni in forging ahead. As the cultural kickoff event of the series of grand celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Fudan SoM's reestablishment, the "Imprinting Fudan SoM · Pioneering for Change – Public Seal Carving Exhibition" was grandly inaugurated on October 23 at the Zhengli Campus of Fudan SoM. This also marks the very first event of the Fudan SoM Museum!

"Poetry, calligraphy, painting and seal carving" are the roots and soul of the inheritance of Chinese culture. A single seal engraves time; each character embodies an ideal, allowing the Fudan SoM spirit of "Enlightening for Truth, Pioneering for Change" to be seen and passed down through these exquisite seals. Public seal carving represents an innovation rooted in tradition, evolving from a "refined pastime for the few" into a "popular art for the masses". It aims to break down professional barriers, encourage universal participation, and turn seal carving into a bridge connecting historical culture with contemporary life. Building on traditional seal carving techniques, public seal carving emphasizes new concepts and original ideas. From innovative materials such as photosensitive resin, glass beads and polymer clay, to cutting-edge design methods including laser engraving, 3D modeling and color inkjet printing, it constantly expands the boundaries of traditional seal carving, fully demonstrating the creative transformation and innovative development of seal carving art in the new era.

This exhibition systematically reviews the 40-year development journey of Fudan SoM. Over 80 seal carving works are carefully categorized into five thematic sections, namely The Genesis of Business Education, Evolution and Development, Pioneering & Transforming, Pursuing Truth & Excellence, and Remembrance & Gratitude, presenting a clear historical context. Each piece embodies the spirit of upholding traditions while driving innovations, with more than 80% of the works adopting new materials and techniques. Bringing together the creativity and enthusiasm of faculty, students, alumni and seal carving enthusiasts, these works collectively interpret the profound humanistic heritage of Fudan's century-old business education.

University Motto Seal

Broad Scholarship and Steadfast Aspirations; Earnest Inquiry and Reflective Thinking

Designed by Academician Li Jin, President of Fudan University, the seal face features the university motto cherished by all Fudan people. Taking the shape of Fudan University's historic main gate and realized through 3D printing technology, it embodies Fudan's profound humanistic heritage and innovative spirit.

Theme Seals

"Imprinting Fudan SoM · Pioneering for Change"

This dual-seal set is designed to complement each other. The first seal, "Imprinting Fudan SoM", is designed by Dean Xiongwen Lu of Fudan SoM. Integrating the movable-type printing style of the "Eternal Imprints" Donor Wall, it reflects historical accumulation and cultural inheritance. The second seal, "Pioneering for Change", also designed by Dean Xiongwen Lu, takes the architecture of the Zhengli Campus as its core motif, symbolizing leadership in management education development and interpreting the school spirit. Through the dialogue between tradition and modernity, the dual-seal set vividly embodies the school's pursuit of innovation rooted in heritage and development driven by innovation.

Iconic Exhibit

"Fudan Business Education" Bamboo Seal

Bamboo roots symbolize new vitality, while bamboo joints represent resilience, standing for the pioneering status of Fudan's business education and its persistent educational philosophy. The side inscription of the seal fully records the founding history of Fudan's business program: Established in 1917, Fudan University's business program was among the earliest institutions in China to establish a business administration education system. By the spring of 1921, it had grown into the largest academic department at Fudan University at that time.

40th Anniversary Seal

"Enlightening for Truth · Pioneering for Change"

Featuring the 40th anniversary logo of Fudan SoM's re-establishment as its core design element, this seal adopts a "wave + futuristic tech" style, embodying the pioneering for change spirit of "riding the tide to forge ahead".

Tech-Art Fusion Seal

"Sci-Tech Innovation Brings a Better Future"

"Sci-Tech Innovation Brings a Better Future" is not only the core concept of Fudan SoM's “Sci-Tech Innovation Strategy”, but also integrated into the artistic creation of this seal. Made with an infinity mirror, it creates a visually endless extension effect, symbolizing the eternal driving force of sci-tech innovation and development.

ESG-themed Seal

"The Inauguration of Zhengli Campus"

As the first business school in China to incorporate social responsibility courses into its curriculum, Fudan SoM has a strong sense of mission in promoting sustainable development and ESG business practices. The "Inauguration of Zhengli Campus" seal is specially made from recycled materials of the balloon installations used in the 2024 inauguration ceremony of the Zhengli Campus, achieving a green transformation from a celebration element to an art collection. More than a witness to the school's spatial expansion, this seal serves as a tangible declaration of the concept of sustainable development.

"I Am a Fudan Person" Exhibition Area

The exhibition features a special section titled "I Am a Fudan Person", showcasing over 20 works by senior alumni. These pieces carry the shared memories of all Fudan people, with eternal imprints and unchanging original aspirations.
