• Chinese Entrepreneurs Expected to Tap Fudan Management Excellence Award in 2010

The effort to initiate a new round of selections for the Fudan Management Excellences Awards in 2010 has recently been kicked off by the Fudan Premium Fund of Management.

The Fund is set to shift its light on the field of business administration this year, and the would-be awardees are going to share a total amount of 1 million RMB in prizes.

The fund was created in 2005 by Mr. Lanqing Li, the former vice premier of China, who is an alumnus of the School, and it offers management excellence awards to 2 to 3 outstanding scholars every year. Its mission is to create the Chinese equivalent of “Nobel Prize” in the research field of management in China, and reward and encourage people to make contributions to management in China and to promote the development of management science.

It has played an important role in improving the development of management in China and increasing the influence of Chinese management on the international stage. Since 2006, a total of 12 scholars in the fields of management science, business administration and public management have been awarded by the fund.

In 2010, the Fund is said to focus on the principle of integrating management theories with Chinese circumstances and business practices, and will for the first time give awards to professional managers or entrepreneurs in the business circle.

The Fund officials said that, by doing so, it is expected to encourage more and more Chinese scholars and entrepreneurs to pay attention to the research of various kinds of management progress and development process which started with the national reform and open-up movement, and to crystallize them into the management theories which have innovative senses and are commonly applicable to business practices of China in the future.

Chinese entrepreneurs are entitled to submit their applications to the Fund by themselves, and the academicians and scholars can choose to recommend them to participate in the selection process.

One member of the judging panel said that, if some Chinese entrepreneur is to receive the award, one has to be the founder or leader of a domestic leading enterprise with profound reputation within its industry, which, during its period of formation and development, has accumulated particular management concepts and measures which are unique and fit with the requirements of business reality in China.

The Fund is set to publicize the award-winners of this year on September 1.
