Master of Finance

The Master of Finance Program was launched by School of Management at Fudan University (Fudan SoM) in 2010 in collaboration with Anderson School of Management at the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) and top faculty at Princeton University, offering two specializations in International Finance and Quantitative Finance and Financial Engineering.

Master of Finance - International Finance (MIF)

MIF is jointly initiated by Fudan SoM and the Anderson School of UCLA in 2010. Combining theory with practice, faculty members from both elite schools convey professional knowledge on corporate finance, investment principles, capital market and financial instruments to foster outstanding talents, who are able to carry out corporate financing decision-making, risk management, financial analysis and quantitative research, etc. The length of study is two years, with all courses taught in English. Students who have completed the required credits and passed the thesis defense will be granted with a Master's degree with specialization in International Finance by Fudan University and a learning certificate by the Anderson School UCLA.

Master of Finance - Quantitative Finance and Financial Engineering (MQFFE)

MQFFE is jointly initiated by Fudan SoM and top faculty at Princeton University. It is designed to integrate technology and the latest conceptual developments in finance, statistics, mathematics and computer to form a comprehensive system, and help to develop well-rounded students to become global leaders. Students are offered cross-disciplinary academic environment, having both breadth and depth in related fields including risk management, structural financial products, sales and quantitative transaction, quantitative research and financial information technology. The purpose of MQFFE is to meet the growing demands for risk management and quantitative finance, and to develop financial talents who make a powerful impact on business and society. The length of study is two years, and the language of instruction is half in English and half in Chinese. Students who complete the required credits and pass the thesis defense will be granted a Master's degree with specialization in Quantitative Finance and Financial Engineering by Fudan University and a learning certificate issued by top faculty at Princeton University.

How to Apply (for International Students)

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid passport (If you hold dual citizenship, or are a citizen of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China, please notify us in advance.)
  • A bachelor's degree (applicants from diverse academic backgrounds are welcome)
  • Solid mathematics and programming background, plus proficiency in Chinese (mandatory for applicants to MQFFE)
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Applicants to MQFFE are required to pass a mandatory online exam for mathematics and Python

Reference for the Coverage of Exam:

Mathematics:

  • Calculus: functions, limits, continuity, single-variable calculus, multivariable calculus, infinite series;
  • Linear Algebra: determinants, matrices, vectors, linear spaces, systems of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrices, quadratic forms;
  • Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics: random events and probability, random variables and their probability distributions, two-dimensional random variables and their probability distributions, numerical characteristics of random variables, the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem, basic concepts of mathematical statistics, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, regression analysis.

Programming:

Basic Python syntax, fundamental data structures (lists, tuples, dictionaries, sets), control-flow design (selection, loops), function definition, basic concepts of function-argument passing, basic concepts of algorithmic complexity and the complexity of common algorithms, common string-manipulation functions, introductory knowledge of regular expressions, basic file operations, basic concepts of object-oriented programming, common functions in NumPy and Pandas.


Applicants who have earned a bachelor's degree from an institution in an English-speaking country, or who hold citizenship of an English-speaking country, are exempt from submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores. To request a waiver of the GMAT/GRE requirement, applicants may submit their official undergraduate academic transcripts for preliminary evaluation.


All other applicants must provide scores from at least one of the following four examinations: TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, or GRE. The minimum score requirements are outlined below:

Application Process

Phase 1 Online Application (Fudan SoM System)

There will be 4 rounds of review throughout the application season. We strongly encourage applicants to apply the earlier rounds.

1) Applications missing any required documents will not be accepted. Additional documents may be requested at the School's discretion. To revise your application form prior to submission, please use the "Save" function. Once the application form is submitted, no further revisions will be permitted.

Phase 2 Online/Onsite Interview

1) Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview via email. For applicants residing in Shanghai at the time of the interview, an onsite interview may be arranged.
2) Interview results will be released approximately 1-2 weeks following the interview.

Phase 3 Online Application (Fudan University System)

Qualified applicants who pass the interview must log on to Fudan University portal via https://istudent.fudan.edu.cn/apply, and complete the online International Student Application of Fudan University, upload required documents and pay the application fee (RMB 800) online. The online system usually opens around mid-December each year.
