FDSM continues to enhance its influence in Taiwan after it joined hands with College of Management at National Taiwan University in launching a joint EMBA program earlier this year. On May 11 2010, the School officially established its Alumni (Taiwan) Representative Office in Taipei, which is the 8th local alumni representative office the School established in the world. School Dean Prof. Xiongwen Lu attended the unveiling ceremony in Taipei, and eminent FDSM alumni representatives from various industries also participated in this landmark event.

Singing the same school song, wearing the same school badge, sharing the same school spirit, the souls of the alumni are connected by a magic force despite the Strait separating the two sides. 60 years ago, the alumni of Fudan University lunched Fudan Newsletter annual, and each issue of 300 pages was published on Fudan Decoration Day in May to sustain the Fudan Spirit of “Service, Unity and Sacrifice”. 50 years ago, the alumni of Fudan University founded Fudan (Taiwan) High School to carry forward the Fudan Motto of “rich in knowledge and tenacious of purpose, inquiring with earnestness and reflecting with self-practice”. Today, FDSM established its Alumni (Taiwan) Representative Office to facilitate the connection, communication and union among the alumni in Taiwan.

The number of FDSM alumni in Taiwan has reached 300, some of them are alumni of the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs, but an important portion of them are alumni of the MBA and EMBA programs. In his address, Dean Lu introduced the School’s recent development and future plan, emphasized the significance of the establishment of Alumni (Taiwan) Representative Office, and hoped that the office can become a new home shared and cared by alumni of FDSM in Taiwan.

Dean Lu says that this year is the 25th anniversary of the School’s reestablishment since it was among the first group of business schools reestablished in China Mainland in 1985. Through continuous endeavors during the last 25 years, the total number of the School’s alumni, including the graduates of the pre-existed management disciplines, has topped 20,000. As the pride of the School, these alumni are mostly influential elites with remarkable achievements in various industries across Great China and around the world. By establishing alumni representative office in areas with a relatively dense group of alumni, the School is building a multidimensional platform to connect our alumni with the School. Dean Lu is confident that the Alumni (Taiwan) Representative Office will play a major role in strengthening the cross-Strait exchanges between the School and its alumni in Taiwan as well as promoting cooperation in various areas.

At the time of the establishment of the office, a group of EMBA students from FDSM were taking a study tour in Taiwan. They also joined in the event to witness this significant moment and thus made the establishment ceremony a big family gathering of the FDSM community from both sides of the Strait.

The Alumni (Taiwan) Representative Office set up a working group mainly formed by local alumni who will take the responsibility of daily communication and event arrangement. The office is located at Hotfrog Advertising Company in Meifu Aisa Pacific Trading Building on Chienkuo North Road of Taipei City. The special office provided by Hotfrog is decorated with pictures of Fudan University’s historic scenes such as Yan Garden, Xianghui Hall, Hanbin Pavilion, Zibin Courtyard, etc. that witness the life journey of the university and convey a family-like care and warmth to the alumni visiting here.

As an important part of the cross-Strait reunion event of FDSM community, the School hosted “Forum of Development of Industrial Economy on Both Sides of the Strait” in the afternoon. The forum, which was held in the Grand Hotel of Taipei, invited guest speakers including General Manager of Waterland Financial Holdings Mr. Bangyi (Harvey) Liu, Chairman of Kindom Group Mr. Yushan Ma, Director of Asia Pacific Cultural Creative Industrial Association Mr. Xiaobo Xu, and Chairman of China Airlines Mr. Xingxiong Wei who shared their individual views of the challenges and opportunities in the grand background of cross-Strait exchange and cooperation.
