On September 20, Vice President Jeff Song of Ingersoll Rand made a speech in the School, titled "How to make business successful?" for MBA students and exchanged his views on business success, and shared his own experiences. Nearly 200 students were present to listen to the wonderful lecture.

MBA education aims to foster high-quality composite management talents with practical abilities, thus it demands more from students. What should MBA students prepare for their business career in order to have excellent professional competence? Jeff stated that the key of self-improvement lies in analytical ability, communication skills and interpersonal skills.

He explained the analytical ability is the ability to explore reason and solve complex problem through dividing into different elements when confronted with a problem.

He stated the communication skill that most people lack recently is not just the same as presentation skill. To accurately express oneself, it first needs definite ideas, clear logic, and a realistic basis.

And interpersonal skills are particularly important in career development. Only the person respect others and be respected by others can establish good interpersonal relationships.

He suggested the students to learn different ways in communicating with different groups, cherish the profound classmate friendship, and establish good relationship between teachers and students.

Regarding the issue of how to choose a career path best suited, Mr. Song said there are three critical factors, namely, personal interests, own ability and outside social trends.

He then added, "Before you pursue a career, you should first make clear what your interest is and what you are good at. These two issues represent 'personal interest' and 'your own ability'." Therefore, he advised the students to take some time to understand themselves when examine their career path.

As the rapid development of China's GDP, many new opportunities appear in the society. Mr. Song said, "such economic development has given you the opportunity to choose, you should follow closely the economic development trend, and make right career choice."

He then analyzed the current economic situation in China combining with the Company's development, and put forward some proposals.

He pointed out that the manufacturing sector will play a significant role in the world economy after the financial crisis. On one hand, if without the exports sales resulted from the burgeoning manufacturing industry, it is difficult to achieve a balanced national economy in the industrialization process; on the other hand, it can be seen from the experiences of developed countries that the development of manufacturing maintains the healthy development of national economy, which is a support for all professional financial services.

At present, China is in the initial stage of industrialization and we have a long journey. The prospects are attractive. Under such economic situation, the manufacturing industry will provide best career opportunities for the management talents.

After the speech, Jeff interacted with the students and answered their questions. The students expressed that they have more understanding and know further about how to make individual self-development plans in career.
