The “Grand Ceremony of Donation by Alumnus of Fudan University Li Dak Sum and His Wife Li Yip Yio Chin” & 2017 Hong Kong Spring Forum was held in Hong Kong. On the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of the founding of Fudan University’s business education, Mr. Li Dak Sum and his wife Ms. Li Yip Yio Chin generously donated 100 million RMB to Fudan University again to support the University’s construction and development.

Mr. Li Dak Sum, Mr. Li Dak Sum’s wife Ms. Li Yip Yio Chin, Mr. Li’s eldest son Mr. Richard Li Lap Fung, his daughter-in-law Ms. Li Poon Yue Kei, Mr. Li’s eldest daughter Ms. Li Yick Kwan, Mr. Li’s son-in-law Mr. Ng Chuen Foo, Mr. Li’s eldest grandson Mr. Kenneth Li, and son of Mr. Li’s daughter Ng Hung Nin; Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Mr. Lu LI, members of the Fudan University Board Ms. Rosie Young Tse Tse, Mr. Jose Yu Sunsay, Mr. Tung Chee-chen, Mr. Tso Kei Yung and Mr. Shengman ZHANG, member of the University Board Mr. Lee Shau Kee’s representative Mr. Fangming ZHANG and directors of the Fudan University Education Development Foundation Mr. Allen Chan and Anson Chan; Party Secretary of Fudan University Ms. Yang JIAO, Vice President of Fudan University and President of the Fudan University Education Development Foundation Mr. Zhiyonog ZHANG, leaders of the relevant departments and divisions of Fudan University, members of the leadership of the School of Management, representatives of the teachers, students and staff of the School of Management, alumni of Fudan University in Hong Kong, representatives of the Ning Po Residents Association and relatives and friends of Mr. Li Dak Sum and Ms. Li Yip Yio Chin attended the donation ceremony.

Party Secretary of Fudan University Yang JIAO gave a speech at the ceremony. Yang JIAO expressed heartfelt thanks to Mr. Li and his wife for paying attention to and supporting China’s educational undertakings and doing everything possible to support the alma mater’s construction and development, and briefly reviewed Mr. Li and his wife’s moving story of contributing funds generously and giving strong support to the alma mater, giving back to the society and supporting education.

Yang JIAO pointed out that Mr. Li’s righteous act is his best interpretation of Fudan people’s character and the spirit of Fudan University. From the mid-1990s, Mr. Li Dak Sum and his wife donated ten times to the alma mater successively, supported the University to improve the condition of the school buildings, and at the same time provided tremendous help in talent fostering, scientific research, disciplinary development, faculty training, etc. In particular, he personally pushed forward the reestablishment of the Department of Accounting of Fudan University, and made outstanding contributions to the rapid development of the School of Management.

Prof. Shizheng QIAN from the Department of Accounting gave an emotional speech on behalf of the School’s teachers. His overseas study was benefited by Mr. Li Dak Sum’s financial support. Prof. Shizheng QIAN recollected Mr. Li’s moving story of making great efforts to help the School of Management foster its faculty and improve teachers’ international visions in the early 1990s. “Mr. Li has established a model of conduct with his way of business and principle of home management. This is our Fudan people’s honor and will become a lively textbook of our School of Management, Fudan University.”

Vice President of Fudan University and President of the Fudan University Education Development Foundation Mr. Zhiyonog ZHANG signed a donation agreement with Li Dak Sum and his wife Li Yip Yio Chin, and Yang JIAO presented name plates to Mr. and Mrs. Li.

Then, Mr. Li Dak Sum gave a speech. He said, “The huge sum donated today is in support of development of the educational undertakings of the School of Management and construction of the Zhengli Campus.” He hoped to help the School of Management become a first-class business school in the world soon. As a student fostered by the Department of Accounting of Fudan University, Mr. Li Dak Sum said, “As an alumnus of Fudan University, I should do everything in my power to give back to my alma mater.” Based on his experience of study in his youth, Mr. Li Dak Sum has always been making efforts and contributions for educational undertakings. “I firmly believe thatChinacan become prosperous and strong through improving the level of education. I hope that professors at Fudan University, including the School of Management, will continue to foster Chinse young students.”

At the end of the ceremony, Yang JIAO presented a tailor-made brocade picture to Mr. and Mrs. Li. This picture captures the important moment when Fudan University conferred an honorary doctor’s degree on alumnus Li Dak Sum. The School of Management presented a scroll written by Fudan students to express the gratitude of all teachers and students of the School of Management to Mr. and Mrs. Li.
