• Department of Business Management Academic Lecture Series (June 9)

Moderator: Junior Associate Research Fellow Chaowen Deng

    Time: 10:00-11:30, Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Venue: Guoshun Campus, Starr Building, Room 410

Topic: A Bounded Rationality Perspective of Strategic Leadership, Artificial Intelligence, and Entrepreneurial Financing

    Abstract:

This lecture adopts bounded rationality as a core analytical framework to reflect on research findings in strategic leadership and entrepreneurial financing, as well as the latest developments in academic research involving artificial intelligence (AI).

First, drawing on my published study on CEO humility in Organization Science, I discuss the fundamental distinctions between leadership research in organizational behavior and strategic leadership research. I also explore the manifestations of bounded rationality and feasible approaches to mitigate its impacts.

Second, shifting the perspective to academic researchers themselves, I combine my experience as an associate editor to analyze how bounded rationality constrains the practical application of AI in academic publishing. While we expect AI to augment scholarly capabilities, unrecognized personal biases and blind spots may instead diminish the real impact of our research outputs.

Third, I invite feedback on an ongoing research project concerning entrepreneurial financing. This study regards personal chemistry between participants as a manifestation of bounded rationality, and examines how real-time interaction dynamics between venture capitalists and entrepreneurs determine the formation of investment partnerships.
