2014 Spring Exchange Students Orientation & Buddy Welcoming Meeting
New semester, new faces. At the beginning of the 2014 spring semester, over 50 international exchange students from all over the world came to FDSM campus, and started their study at Fudan University.
Coming new to China can be a challenging experience, but with the Orientation Session given by staff from the School’s international cooperation and exchange office as well as the University’s international student office, exchange students were given important information about the university and their exchange life. Topics like immigration, academic and adjustment concerns to the Fudan University were covered in this session.
As a tradition of the Fudan MBA program, all exchange students are grouped with Fudan MBA students as buddy team. Later this afternoon, international exchange student met their buddies during the buddy welcoming session and learned how to be more involved with the campus and MBA student groups.
Chandler Liu, current student of Fudan IMBA program and member of Fudan MBA international club announced the starting of buddy welcoming meeting and gave an interesting introduction about the IMBA program and the student profile. Next, Kathy Xie, classmate of Chandler, introduced the MBA international student club team and forecasted the coming buddy activities in this semester. She also gave a vivid virtual campus tour and recommended many university facilities to the exchange students.
Next, Vlad Iermolaiev, IMBA student from Ukraine, did a presentation on Survival in China, from Basics to eShopping & life-hacks. From the perspective of a foreigner who has been lived and studied in China for half a year, Vlad introduced many important tips which will help with international students’ quick adjustment to living in the giant city of Shanghai. Vlad’s recommendations including lots’ of useful and cool apps, “to do list” and “don’t do list” in China, web shopping address etc.
Last but not least, Yang Yang from IMBA class 2 hosted the ice breaking section, in which international exchange students and their buddies are divided in 8 groups. Each team has 20 minutes to get to know every team member, and prepare a presentation to demonstrate the characteristic of every member in their team. During the team presentation part, Chinese gown, Canadian maple leaf, Spanish red bull, Franch Eiffel tower and so many other wonderful features made up an international culture show. This part turned out to be the most exciting moment of the day.
It was a great opportunity for IMBA students and international exchange students to meet each other and develop immediate connections with each other. What a nice beginning, hope all students will keep great power and high tension during the whole semester.
