Most MBA students consider socializing as key component of their MBA study. 15 Executive MBA students from ITESM had a study trip to China early this month. They spent a day at the main campus of Fudan University on May 7th.
The meeting started with everyone’s self introduction. Students got to know each other’s name, job, and expertise from this brief activity.
During the mingling session, students worked in groups of 3-4 and randomly picked up topics. They got to know each other better through this session as all of students were quite engaged in talking to our partners and were able to ask some further questions about each other’s job and MBA life. One of the students ,Cathy SU mentioned “ The most interesting thing I learned from my partners actually was about the Spanish naming customs. They told me, in Spain, a person’s name consists of a given name followed by two family names. The first surname is usually the father’s first surname, and the second the mother’s first surname. They encouraged us to call them by their given names, but they also pointed out the full name is always used in legal, formal, and documentary matters. “
After the classroom activities, the school faculty also organized a dinner at a local restaurant-Lost Heaven on the Bund to welcome all students to this unique MBA gathering.
The dinner was designed to allow the students to experience communications in a different environment setting and have a deeper understanding of each other’s culture.
The study trip was a unique opportunity for Executive MBA students of ITSEM to join the international network. Fudan MBA students had also found Spanish students’ experiences and understanding of Chinese cultures very interesting and particularly insightful.
