3. Origin
On March 26th, the Origin Team presented their interim progress presentation to the Faculty mentors from both MIT (John Grant, Michellena Jester) and Fudan (Professor Tzeng). The purpose of the presentation was to talk about the current progress of the team, and present any research or insights that have been developed. The MIT Team arrived in Shanghai on the 16th, and the Origin Team had their face-to-face meeting in the client’s office on the18th. Throughout their time here, the team has met almost every day on campus to share ideas, and work on research and analysis for the project. Throughout the many days of brainstorming, the team has formed a strong bond over many shared meals, and each has learned how to collaborate with the others to work most efficiently.
At the progress presentation, the team talked about their initial thought process in devising a new business plan for Origin and explained their list of explored ideas. They also focused on one main idea as the focal point for the project going forward and outlined: what it is, why it’s a good idea, how they came to that conclusion, and what are their next steps. At the conclusion of the presentation, the faculty mentors asked many clarifying questions of both the Team and the Origin Representative to better understand client needs and project scope. The faculty mentors then offered their advice to the team about how they feel is the best way to proceed. The time was very useful for the Origin team to have everyone on the same page, and to clear up any questions or concerns before moving forward to the final deliverable. It was also a nice time to catch up with everyone, and allow the clients to see the entire team (both faculty and students) that is working to deliver best recommendations.
For the remainder of the week, the team will continue to discuss further plans for work on the project. The goal for the next few days is to have a streamlined work plan for how they will split up the work flow going forward.
