On Tuesday, November 17th, iLab Workshop invited Mr. Joe Jin, a partner of Roland Berger's China healthcare practice, to give IMBA students a speech about “How to conduct a consulting project”. Mr. Joe has over 15 years of management consulting experiences and he advises clients on enterprise-wide strategic, operational and organizational issues, and helps them to transform and improve.
Mr. Jin gave his speech in three aspects. At the first place, Mr. Jin introduced Ronald Berger. Founded in 1967, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants is the only leading consulting firm of European origin. The core values of the company are entrepreneurship, excellence and empathy. As for the career of consultant, Mr. Jin highlights several attributes he deemed significant. First is the sense, both for business and broader economy context. Technical skills are with no doubt highly important. Mr. Jin underscored logical thinking and problem solving as the foundation for the career. Based on his experience, Mr. Jin suggested proper working style and appropriate way to interact with clients. Last but least, he advised students to have broader interest and a sense of philosophy
Since the workshop was specially prepared for iLab project, Mr. Jin proposed a way to implement consulting skills into practice. Scope management is of prime importance. Students should clarify the project scope with clients in order to build a clear framework at the beginning of the project. Other key points like stockholder management, teamwork spirit, logic thinking and report writing are also mentioned.
Students are greatly impressed and responded actively in Q&A section. This speech is bound to give far-reaching influence not only on the coming iLab project but also on those who aiming to enter consultant business.
