In a recent interview, Professor Lu Xianghua from Department of Information Management and Business Intelligence, Fudan University School of Management (FDSM), shared her insights on the new characteristics of sci-tech innovations of our age obtained through her frequent visits at emerging sci-tech companies and in-depth communications with young entrepreneurs.
The greatest shift happens in the capital market: sci-tech innovative companies have been favored by both national funds as well as private venture capitals in recent years; secondly, development of sci-tech innovative companies have been attracting more attentions; and thank to the enticement provided by the national policies, nowadays talents also tend to choose sci-tech innovative companies.
Meanwhile, as often mentioned by Professor Lu Xiongwen, Dean of FDSM, entrepreneurs from recent years are often better educated and have more impressive work experience. If they prefer starting their own business to seeking better career development or earning more money, it’s because they believe in science and technology and they are determined to improve our life and make the world a better place with it.
Then by analysing two cases, Professor Lu shed light upon the key role the government — both national and local — can play in creating fertile ground for scientific and technological innovation. In addition to formulating favorable policies, the government can also promote innovation by building entrepreneurial parks, or lead industrial upgrading to the right direction by attracting investment, etc.
